Can I withdraw money on the Island?
No. We operate the resort in local Indonesian rupiah currency and strongly recommend that you withdraw a sufficient amount of money from the ATMs in Medan to cover your costs, we suggest around 5 million Rupiah. There are no Credit Card facilities on the island and the only available ATM in town accepts MasterCard cards and Visa cards. However, it is very unreliable with foreign cards.
Should I be concerned about malaria?
Since the Tsunami in 2005, the town of Sinabang installed proper drainage, coupled with a fogging program to eradicate the malaria carrying mosquitoes, since then the threat of malaria has been reduced to extremely little. Our Resort is located 20 km from town and in 15 years of living here we have never had a single case of malaria or dengue fever, it is a matter of personal choice whether to take anti- malarial medication or bring it with you just in case. We know mosquitoes are annoying and can transmit deadly diseases just be sensible, early morning, afternoon, and evening when they are most active put a repellent on. We have insect spray available on request to give your room a spray, there is also an electric insect atomizer in each room, please remember to keep the screen door closed.
How many people will be at the resort?
Moon Beach Surf Resort holds a maximum of 13 guests. To avoid crowds we usually split up into groups and go to different breaks. Moreover, there are so many setups both North and South. More often than not you will be surfing with just MBSR guests.
Are there any dress restrcitions?
Yes, Simeulue people though very friendly maintain their strong Muslim beliefs. Therefore Men and women are respectfully asked to dress moderately when outside the resort grounds, Men are expected to wear a shirt and footwear, Women a long skirt or trousers and something to cover their shoulders, and this unfortunately means no bikini, or tank tops when out in town.
For surfing and Swimming, we recommend men wear board shorts and a rash shirt if you like. Women either a one piece swimsuit with long tights or board shorts with a rash vest. We can also arrange boat trips to secluded islands where dress is not an issue. We are sure that with a little common sense and respect for the culture you are in there will be no issues. If you have any questions on this please just ask.
Do you have a Tsunami evauation plan?
Yes. The Resort is within a short walking distance from the nearby hills with a marked access road leading to higher ground close by. There are sirens in and warnings are issued on all local TV.

We have basic first aid at the resort and in the surf vans. If serious, there is a hospital with English speaking doctors located near the airport and is open 24hrs 7 days a week. If the nature of the injury is critical your travel insurance will be contacted for your immediate evacuation to a specialist hospital.

Yes, we can do most ding repairs.
When is the best time to come?
Anytime is a good time to visit MBSR as there are waves and favorable winds all year round. Due to the doldrums latitude, there are no dominant wind patterns, so conditions are relatively calm most of the year.
The Southern Indian Ocean is the most efficient swell machine on the planet. So, you can expect numerous 6-10ft (2-3m) SW swells per month between April and October, as well as consistent 3-6ft (1-2m) swells between November and March. Simeulue receives the same swells as the Mentawai Islands as well as more westerly swells from higher in the Indian Ocean. The biggest swells typically hit the island from June to August.
Having said that, every year offers up different weather patterns and clean medium size swells can be enjoyed every month of the year. Due to there being multiple breaks, regardless of the swell size there is almost always a 3 to 5 ft wave size option.
